How to boost FPS in Roblox on PC (2026)
Roblox is a strange game to tune because it isn't really one game. A simple obby runs on a potato. A big shooter or a detailed roleplay map can bring a mid-range PC to its knees. The settings below help in both cases, and they take about five minutes.
Roblox updates its settings menu often. If something has moved or been renamed, look for the closest option in the same menu.
1. Switch graphics to Manual
Press Esc in any experience and open Settings. Find Graphics Mode and change it from Automatic to Manual. A Graphics Quality slider appears underneath.
Automatic mode keeps changing the quality as you play, which can cause sudden drops. Manual gives you a steady level that you choose.
2. Lower the Graphics Quality slider
Start low. On integrated graphics or an older laptop, 1 to 4 bars is a good range. On a gaming PC, try somewhere in the middle and move it up until your FPS stops being steady, then step back one notch.
Lower bars reduce shadows, draw distance and detail. In most experiences the game still looks fine, and smooth gameplay beats nice lighting every time. That's our view, anyway.
3. Set the maximum frame rate
Newer versions of Roblox have a Maximum Frame Rate option in the same Settings menu. Set it to your monitor's refresh rate, for example 144 on a 144 Hz screen. If your version doesn't show this option, it may not have reached your account yet.
On a laptop, a cap at your refresh rate also keeps the machine cooler, and a cooler laptop holds its speed for longer.
4. Make sure a laptop uses the right GPU
Many gaming laptops have two graphics chips: a weak built-in one and a faster dedicated one. Windows sometimes runs Roblox on the weak one. Fix it here:
Settings › System › Display › Graphics › add Roblox › Options › High performance.
While you're at it, plug in the charger. On battery, most laptops cut performance hard.
5. Close what you don't need
Roblox doesn't need much on its own, but a browser with 30 tabs, a Discord stream and a game launcher updating in the background all add up. Close what you're not using before you play. On a PC with 8 GB of RAM this matters a lot.
Quick reference
| Setting | Weak PC or laptop | Gaming PC |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics Mode | Manual | Manual |
| Graphics Quality | 1 to 4 bars | Mid range, raise until FPS dips |
| Maximum Frame Rate | Your refresh rate | Your refresh rate or higher |
| Laptop GPU | High performance | Not needed on desktops |
Fixes outside the game
A few Windows settings help every game, Roblox included:
- Turn on Game Mode under Settings › Gaming.
- Set the power mode to Best performance.
- Turn off background recording under Settings › Gaming › Captures.
- Check your monitor isn't stuck at 60 Hz.
Our Windows 11 FPS guide covers each one with the exact steps.
Heavy experiences need different settings
A setting that runs a simple obby at 144 FPS can drop to 40 in a big open-world experience full of players. That's normal. The world, the scripts and the number of avatars change from one experience to the next, and some are built far less efficiently than others. If one game runs badly and the rest are fine, lower the Graphics Quality slider for that session rather than for everything. You can set it back when you leave.
Older PCs also suffer when an experience has lots of players in one place. Smaller servers help, and some experiences let you join a less crowded one from the server list.
When it's not your PC
Some lag in Roblox has nothing to do with FPS. If players teleport, hits don't register or the world freezes while your FPS counter looks fine, that's network lag or a busy server. Try a wired connection, pause downloads on other devices and join a different server.
